This year’s Mardi Gras creation – Pom poms

Pompoms that look like boobs

Boob pompoms

Every year for Mardi Gras, I try to create something new to add to my increasing collection of boob related accessories. (I know, I know). This year I had an order for a boob scarf that I barely got done before we left so I was running rather short on time. I decided to try my hand at pompoms.

It turned out pretty easy and very fast.

I used a 2-inch pompom maker. I wanted them to be fairly large.

Using your dark pink, wrap the center of the pompom maker about 10 times. Then using the light pink wrap over the center and to the sides of the pink as large as you want this ring to be. Then using the flesh tone wrap until your pompom maker is full. I left pretty long strings after I tied up the pompom so that I could attach them to barrettes. After I tied them on they were good to go.

The tended to flop around a little bit as my hair is really fine and doesn’t provide a very sturdy support system.

The same method could easily be used to make target pompoms which I might do later.

I’m still testing a couple of patterns, but they should be up soon. I lost my whole weekend of crochet due to traveling. I can crochet on a plane, but not in a car.

I’ve drafted the pattern in a usable format instead of my chicken scratch notes.
Please be advised that I haven’t tested this pattern, but I am pretty sure there are no errors in it.  Make sure you use #drunkenauntwendy if you make him so I can find you.
Let me know if you have questions.

Buckeye Baby Hat – Free Pattern

Ohio State Buckeyes Crocheted baby hat pattern

The link previously provided to get a .pdf of the pattern is no longer working. I changed my dropbox account so I apologize if anyone has been trying to find it and it has been unavailable. The Buckeye Baby Hat is available. Just click on the link.

Happy crocheting and be sure to check out the new fan appreciation gallery and my own gallery of items. I’m slowly learning to manage how to do this with two kids constantly underfoot. I am getting back to designing patterns. It may be awhile until I am back in the swing of things, but I will get there.

Free Pattern Tuesday – One eyed, one horned, flying purple people eater

Crocheted One Eyed One horned flying purple people eater pattern

20120417-224233.jpg

That full time job of mine really gets in the way of my crafting. It keeps me in yarn, that’s probably why I stay.

This pattern was up at my shop, but it hasn’t been purchased yet so I decided to take it down. It’s one of my favorites so enjoy.

BTW if you can’t find a 30mm eye you can embroider one on instead.

Remember if you make your own, use #drunkenauntwendy so I can find it.

Free Pattern Tuesday – Helga the Hedgehog

Crocheted Hedgehog

20120320-213423.jpg

I love hedgehogs. I may add feet to her later, but I think she is pretty cute the way she is.

If you want to make her, but don’t have the supplies, there’s a kit for that.

For an ad free .pdf you can buy now for a nominal fee.

If you need a tutorial on loop stitch, click here

The pattern has been updated. It is now available on Ravelry.

Materials

I love this yarn – Greybeard (95 yds)

I love this yarn – Peacock, Amethyst or Hot Rose (2 yds)

Vanna’s Choice – Beige (7 yds)

Abbreviations

SC – Single Crochet

Ch- Chain
INC – SC 2 stitches into same stitch

DEC – SC two stitches together
BLO – Back loops only

LS – Loop Stitch

TC – Triple crochet

DC – Double Crochet

Gauge – Gauge is not important for this project, but if you are making it from the kit, you should use the right size needle to ensure you don’t run out of yarn.

Notes:

Parentheses indicate a repeat. Repeat the stitches in the parentheses for the number of times indicated.

The bracketed number [] is the number of stitches at the end of each row.

I spread my increases out so there isn’t a seam on the finished piece. If you do not like this method, you can do regular increases.

Crochet section is worked in partly in the round. Use a stitch marker or a scrap piece of yarn to mark the beginning of each row. Then you don’t have to count every row. Do not join unless instructed to.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at drunkenauntwendy@gmail.com.

Free Pattern Tuesday – Lego Person Newborn Baby Hat

Knitted lego newborn hat pattern

20120228-201125.jpg

I love Legos, but often feel I’m to old to play with them. The next best thing is making Lego creations out of yarn.

This is a pretty easy knit pattern. I hate working in the round unless I use double pointed needles and that can be tedious. It’s made in one piece and seamed in the back. The decorations/face are made in crochet and then sewn on.

Happy Knitting and as always contact me if you have questions.
