Seneca – The evil monster

Crocheted monster

2015-08-07 13.59.44

I was playing with my monsters and I thought I should make an evil one. Actually, I just wanted to make a mustache and this is what happened. It looks nothing like my original sketch. My daughter thought he looked like the game maker from Hunger Games. Hence the name.

I’m not positive I like his stalk eye. I’m wondering if it should be skinnier. I do like the splotches and the mustache just makes me laugh. The arms are fun and I’m enjoying seeing all the different things I can do with a body part after I make it. For example, the arms would be really good puppy ears.

Please feel free to test this out. Let me know if there are any problems. It will be available free for two weeks until August 21. Then I will take Seneca down and put up a new pattern that will stay free forever. (My husband wants me to make emoji pillows, I want to make a carrot. I don’t know which one will win.)

Here’s the .pdf. Please let me know if you have any problems or anything is confusing.

8/26/15 – Updated

The pattern is no longer free. It is available for purchase on Etsy and Ravelry.

Mango and Tango – monsters out on the town.

Crocheted Monsters

I present Mango and Tango. Tango is taking his monster lady friend out on the town dancing. Here’s hoping their tails don’t get tangled.

I tried new things on these two. I added eyelids:

And I used doll eyelashes. This shows Mango without her lashes:

I’m still deciding whether I like the eyelashes or not.

Bonnie and Clyde – new monster pattern

Meet Bonnie and Clyde. They are monsters in love.

I think they are super cute and super fun. Let me know what you think.

update 7/24/15 Thank you to every one who tested the pattern. I’m still open to hearing any issues that might have been found while testing. The pattern is no longer free and is available for sale at Ravelry and Etsy.

Revamping the Site

Drunken Aunt Wendy Logo

I am working on new patterns and revamping the blog. The current plan is every other Friday, post a pattern for testing purposes. I’ll leave it up for two weeks, please send me comments letting me know if you found any errors. Then after two weeks, it will be taken down and a new pattern will be put up for testing. The patterns will have more photos (hopefully – I really hate stopping to take pictures), and more color options. I like making things in more than one color scheme to see how they work.

I am hoping to start making kits as well to purchase everything you need to make your own DrunkenAuntWendy creations.

The first new pattern is set to go up on July 10th. It is a fun, funky little monster that I have really had fun making.

I can’t wait to see what you think.

Fried Egg Hat to go with the bacon scarf

Crocheted Bacon scarf pattern

It is not my pattern but the wonderful glitzy fairy was inspired by Kevin (the bacon scarf) and decided there needed to be a whole breakfast themed set of accessories.

She added a fried egg hat and a croissant pin. Follow the link to have your own breakfast party.

It’s my birthday

Fancy yarn

It’s my birthday and my husband ordered me these lovelies. I’m so excited to make a shawl or a scarf or anything out of it.

As a treat to my loyal blog  followers, take $1.00 off your pattern in my Etsy store if you use the coupon code WENDYDAY. The code expires on Friday.

Weaving

Finished woven scarf

Yes I am still working on my sweater. I almost have one sleeve done. I think it might be next fall before I get it done. In the mean time, I have been trying my hand at other yarn crafts. A long time ago, I bought a rigid heddle loom. Then as happens sometimes, I never used it. I bought a basic class on Craftsy (if you haven’t heard of or used Craftsy, you should click the link).

First, I learned how to direct warp my loom. This was challenging as my loom did not come with a warping peg. In a pinch, we used a paper towel holder on a chair in my dining room. 2015-04-20 12.37.09

My husband should not be allowed to take pictures of me. Here I am warping away. I always tend to over warp. At least I know it will be long enough.

Then I had to thread it through the heddle. As you can see wine was involved on a few of these projects. In the upper picture, you can see the very first scarf I ever finished. I didn’t calculated correctly and it is rather short. (I learned to pay attention to the worksheets that came with my Craftsy class). This one is made out of the leftover warp and scrap yarn laying around.

I also learned how to do a twisted fringe. I have always liked the look, but I was never able to figure it out.

This is what is on my loom now.

I’m planning on a series of placemats all with the same color scheme, but a different plaid.

I can’t wait to finish them. All in all, it takes a bit of time to finish a project, but I can stop and come back to it.

I need to get back to crocheting. I have some ideas for new amigurumis.

The never-ending sweater project

Back of a knit sweater

I haven’t disappeared, I just decided to make a sweater for myself.

I’m a slower at knitting than I am at crochet, but I found a shrug jacket pattern by Debbie Bliss and thought it looked really cute and comfortable. It’s called the Moss Stitch Shrug Jacket and it is available in Issue #10 of the magazine.

I had a 9 hour conference in March and thought I could easily knock out most of it then. I didn’t even finish the back at my conference.

2015-04-20 12.35.08 2015-04-20 12.35.25

The back is done finally. It is about 36 inches long, and I really love the moss stitch. I have started on the Left back sleeve. Once I finish that part, I will have 3 more pieces to go and then assemble.

My current estimated finish time is around June when it will be too hot to wear it. I never make anything for myself so I really want to finish this. I do think I will only work on it during the evening while I watch TV and use my other time for some other projects. Plus, I think my husband will be rather upset if I continue to have unfinished WIPs all over my studio.

Speaking of studios, we created one in my attic for just me and all my weaving/art/yarn/jewelry making accessories. I am still crocheting, but I have gotten into a few more things.

I will definitely post the finished item. If I ever finish it.

Gus – The baby platypus

Crocheted baby platypus

Gus for listing photo

This is Gus. He’s an adorable little baby platypus that I made for a design contest. The contest was at http://www.amigurumipatterns.net/ and it was for a parent and a baby. That means there is a mommy platypus pattern that just needs to be typed up. I didn’t win the contest, but I really liked coming up with new features. The flippers are so cute, I now have ideas for ducks and flipper monsters.

I originally tried to have him fuzzy.

I used a slicker brush that you use to groom dogs to give the yarn a fuzzy texture. I wasn’t positive that I like it. Thankfully, Mac, one of my new puppies, decided to steal it so I had to make it again. I like the non-fuzzy version better. Gus is available as a .pdf download in my available patterns and at my Etsy and Ravelry shops.
